12 quick ways to Fix Premiere Pro Playback Lagging Issue. Hello Adobe Premiere Pro video Editors, you might be wondering why premiere pro is so slow all of a sudden on your PC. video playback lag can be a serious issue when you do not know how to fix it. so in this premiere pro tutorial i am going to show you why your premiere is lagging and how to fix it. Premiere Pro can lag for different reasons, including insufficient RAM or too many running background Programs. Additionally, inadequate storage space, heavy video effects or transitions, an outdated graphics card (GPU) and many more can contribute to lagging. So the first way to fix slow playback In Premiere is to upgrade your computer to meet premiere pro minimum system requirements. The second Playback Lag solution is to Change playback resolution, simply Reduce the video playback resolution to a lower resolution, such as 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16 Next Use proxy videos in your workflow. Sometimes we are working with high resolution footages like 4k or 8k and this might be too heavy for our computer. Also Remember to turn off quality playback, you don't need to preview your workflow in high quality if speed is a concern. Next Mute Global FX, Muting Global effects will turn off all effects in your sequence temporarily To run Premiere Pro smoothly. Another way I fix laggy video playback is to Increase memory allowance dedicated to Premiere Pro cc, so dedicate a high portion of your system Ram to Adobe programs for fast playback. Another Effect way to make faster Premiere Pro playback is to delete old media cache files. The media cache is a temporary storage space in Premiere Pro that keeps copies of media files when imported; however continuous storage overtime can lead to poor playback performance due to excessive usage of the computer hard disk space. you can also close the lumetri scope panel and other unused panels within premiere and other running programs to give premiere better room to work smoothly. some panels and programs are heavy in function and can cause premiere pro to drag. and you may Render a portion of your video if rendering the whole video is taking too long, and if you are still noticing a drop in playback quality, simply Save your work and Restart your pc. this frees up some space by shutting down apps that might be working in the background. do you know any better ways to fix playback lag in Premiere Pro ? kindly share in the comment section. When you hit play in your timeline to review your video, it can sometimes look a bit "laggy" or "choppy". This could be because you haven't rendered your timeline yet, so how do you do that? Above your timeline, you can see a line that indicates what part of the timeline is rendered. This line is most likely yellow or red for you and we want to make it green. The way you do this is by placing the playhead where you want the rendering to start, click "I" to set an In-point and then place the playhead where you want the rendering to end and click "O" to set an Out-point. After that, you click "ctrl + R" to render the selected area, and then that part will turn green and you can replay it, hopefully without any lag. Why is Premiere' PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE slow as fudge all of the sudden? Because it implemented a cool new feature that can actually be horrible on the wrong system (most systems?!?). Maybe they forgot to test with non-workstation GPUs or on low quality motherboards? If I knew for a fact that a non-cheap motherboard upgrade will make this work as intended - I think definitely yes. You're using premiere pro on a high end top of the line PC and your still struggle to preview video with little if not any effects. Simply answer may be - The video Codec. H264 / H265 are very compressed and difficult to process. Transcoding the video to something like ProRes 422 will make a larger file but preform much better. -SEO- -Have a great pc, amazing pc, beast pc, high end pc, top of the line pc, expensive pc, custom pc -Having issues with slow playback, choppy playback, slow playback, 100% CPU (central processing unit) usage, bad performance, freezing performance -Trying to fix, repair, contain, diagnose the situation -Need a quick, to the point, simple, explanation, report, reason, why, premiere pro is acting up Maybe you've heard that Premiere Pro isn't good at H264, H265, HVEC, or other encoders and want to know how you can use your H264, H265 to be in an editable state but transcoding tutorials are kind of hard or difficult to come by. This video does go over how to simply transcode your H264 MP4 or MOV file into a QuickTime ProRes format in which I personally suggest ProRes 422. This is a simple solution, when nothing else is working, your recording frame rate and shutter speed are spot on, your sequence settings are correct, your export settings are correct but when you export your media, you end up with choppy footage. If you have done everything else correct but still end up with choppy footage. You may not be using the Adobe Media Encoder. If you are like me and would select "Export" from the export menu, stop doing this right away and start using the Adobe Media Encoder from here on out. It solved all of my issues. All you have to do is select "Queue" instead of "Export" and this may solve your issue. My specific issue occurred when I had dlog drone footage mixed in with my non log footage. The clips I captured with the DJI Mavic Pro 2 would skip while all the footage taken with my camera were fine. It may have something to do with the two formats, which further justifies dropping your clips in the Queue instead of Export direct, so that Adobe Media Encoder can polish your footage into a cleaner, more stable format.
