This is the new Ford Focus! The Focus isn’t as popular as it used to be, having recently dropped out of the top 10 of the most popular cars in the UK. Well, Ford is looking to reverse that trend, and as a result it’s brought in a number of changes to make it more appealing. The new model is only a facelift rather than an all-new model, but there are still a couple of noticeable changes. Starting at the rear, there’s some new tail lights along with twin exhaust pipes. Around the front, there’s some new LED headlights along with a new grille design. The Ford badge has also been moved from the bonnet down to the grille. On the inside, the most notable change is the new infotainment screen. It comes equipped with Ford’s all-new infotainment system too, but it’s a bit laggy and not the best to use. There are some new digital dials as well. Elsewhere, the cabin is pretty well made, with a fair bit of storage and nice materials throughout. As it stands, there are two engine choices available, with the range-topper being a 1-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 155hp. It’s available as either a manual or automatic, and there’s a diesel due out next year which will only be available as an automatic. The new Focus starts from around £26,000, but should you choose it over competitors such as the Golf? Stick with Mat to see for yourself! Met de Ford Focus ST en Volkswagen Golf GTI hebben we twee van de laatst overgebleven hete hatchbacks in het C-segment bij elkaar. Now, the current Focus has been treated to a mid-life update that includes changes to the styling, interior and powertrain line-up. The model range has been revised, too. The previous range-topping Vignale is now a more luxurious add-on pack for the core trims: Titanium, sporty ST-Line and off-road inspired Active, plus there’s entry-level Trend spec. The changes on the outside are mostly cosmetic, but the Focus’s cabin benefits from a comprehensive tech upgrade. The centrepiece is a vast new infotainment screen running new Sync 4 software; Ford says that the 13.2-inch display is the biggest in the class. Loading times have significantly improved, and the large icons and clear graphics make it a doddle to use. But do the upgrades pull the Focus ahead of its rivals? Nicola Hume finds out. The Ford Focus Active estate inspires confidence, making you more connected to what’s going on, and everyday driving becomes less of a chore as a result. The estate bodystyle costs £1,160 more than the Focus hatchback and if you value extra space in the rear, it seems a sensible option. The big, uniformly shaped load space has a few little tricks up its sleeve, too. You can remove the roller-blind parcel shelf and store it under the main boot floor. When that underfloor space is empty, it serves as a waterproof storage area, with the lid becoming a dividing wall that clips into place to separate your muddy boots in the front part of the boot from the stuff you’d rather not get grubby at the back. It’s not a bad device when you’re loading the boot with supermarket shopping bags, either, because it provides a bit of support to stop them spilling their contents all over the load bay on the way home. Een familieauto die doordeweeks de metgezel is voor je zakelijke verkeer, maar in het weekend en zeker in de vakanties zorgt een veilige en relaxte rit voor jou en de kids, dát is de Ford Focus Wagon. Ford zelf stelt dat dit de beste Focus ooit is, dus dat belooft wat. Ja, een nieuwe auto is negen van de tien keer beter dan zijn voorganger, maar Ford heeft zwaar ingezet op nieuwe technologieën, maar ook nieuwe uitvoeringen die nieuwe delen van de markt moeten aanspreken. De Ford Focus Wagon is er, net als zijn vijfdeurs carrosserievariant, in verschillende uitvoeringen en met verschillende motoren te krijgen. Qua uitvoeringen zet Ford de lijn door die met de Fiesta is ingezet. Naast de Trend Edition, Trend Business en de Titanium Business, die ook een groot deel van de zakelijke rijders voor hun rekening nemen, zijn er de sportieve ST Line Business, de luxe Vignale en de extra stoere Active Business. En het toetje moet nog komen, want er komt ook nog een Focus ST (zowel als vijfdeurs en als Wagon). Het motorenaanbod bestaat uit een vijftal motoren, die ook nog per motor in verschillende sterktes variëren. De 1.0 EcoBoost is er met 100 en 125 pk, de 1.5 EcoBoost benzinemotor (waar Allard en Andreas mee rijden) levert 150 pk of, in de ST Line, 182 pk. Het sportieve topmodel, de Focus ST Wagon, heeft een 280 pk sterke 2.3 EcoBoost-motor. Voor de dieselaars zijn er een 1.5 EcoBlue-motor met 95 pk of 120 pk en een 2.0 EcoBlue dieselmotor met 150 pk (alleen leverbaar op de ST Line). Allard en Andreas rijden in de Ford Focus Wagon in de Titanium Business-uitvoering in combinatie met de 150 pk (110kW) sterke 1.5 liter EcoBoost-motor. Deze rijd je vanaf 30.010 euro. Dan krijg je een complete uitrusting, zoals een 8 inch Touch&Swipe scherm, SYNC 2.5 met smartphone-koppeling en Bluetooth, alle belangrijke veiligheidssystemen, Dual Zone Automatische Airconditioning, LED dagrijverlichting, sportstoelen voorin, ambient lighting en meer. Met alle extra opties die op de auto zitten, zoals het Style Pack Titanium, Winter Pack, Parking Pack, Technology Pack (met adaptieve cruise control, verkeersbord herkenning en meer slimme veiligheidssystemen), het Bang & Olufsen Play audiosysteem en meer, kost deze alles bij elkaar 36.610 euro. A seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters is also available.
